What You Need to Build a Website

If you've never had a website, the list of "technical stuff" can be intimidating: domain, hosting, email, SSL… Relax. In this guide we explain what you really need to build a website, in plain language.

1. A domain (your website's address)

It's the name people will find you by, for example yourbusiness.com. It should be short, easy to remember and, ideally, include your brand name. You pay an annual fee (usually cheap).

2. Hosting

It's the "space" where your website lives so it's available 24/7 on the internet. Without hosting, your website can't be seen. It's also paid for by the year.

3. A professional email

Having an email with your domain (for example info@yourbusiness.com) conveys far more trust than a generic Gmail or Hotmail address. It's a small detail that makes a difference.

4. The content

The most important part, and the one most often forgotten:

• Copy: what you offer, why choose you, how to get in touch. If you don't have it, it can be written with AI.
• Images: your logo, photos of products, your premises or your team.
• Contact details: WhatsApp, email, social media.

5. Basic SEO optimization

For Google to find you, your website needs to be properly set up from the start: correct titles, descriptions, speed and a mobile version. You don't need to be an expert, but whoever builds your website should keep it in mind.
